H. Steven Robertson, a devoted husband, father and larger than life was born October 18, 1944 in the middle of a hurricane in Tampa. He lived his life as a force of energy that sought to pursue the journey of a renaissance man. He died peacefully June 30, 2008, surrounded by his family.
He attended Newberry College in South Carolina on a full football scholarship. He obtained his Masters of Education at the University of Florida.
A longtime resident of Neptune Beach, he worked as a public school educator for 37 years. He served as a teacher, coach, media specialist and assistant principal. His insight and dedication influenced hundreds of students he mentored throughout his life. Known to many as “Coach,” his leadership garnered many undefeated seasons of football, soccer, track and softball.
An incredibly talented man, he was an author, poet and artist. He was a skilled carpenter, sculptor, chef, gardener and craftsman, there was nothing he couldn’t design, build or cultivate. As an expert diver and fisherman, he loved the outdoors and spent his life enamored with nature, possessing compassion for all living creatures. A pillar of the Beaches community, he was always the first to offer genuine kindness and a lending hand to anyone who needed it.
